MWC 2018: Sony unveils Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact

Sony has unveiled two new smartphones in its XZ series, dubbed the Xperia XZ2 and the Xperia XZ2 Compact at the ongoing MWC 2018.

The Xperia XZ and the Xperia X2 Compact come with a different curved rear design and rounded corners, however, with the same thick bezels. Additionally, the fingerprint scanner now rests at the back.

The main highlight of both the smartphones is the accompaniment of the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 mobile platform.

Starting with the Sony Xperia XZ, the smartphone comes with a 5.7-inch full HD+ display and comes equipped with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. On the camera front, the smartphone consists of a 19-megapixel Motion Eye primary camera with Exmor RS sensor with a 5-megapixel front snapper with wide-angle lens. The smartphone supports 4K HDR video recording and support frame rate of 960fps for slow-motion videos.

The Xperia XZ2 is backed by a 3,180mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 tech, Smart Stamina and wireless charging, and runs Android 8.0 Oreo. The smartphone comes with IP65/68 certification and comes with various connectivity options such as GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v5.0, NFC, and USB 3.1 Gen 1 port. Additionally, the Xperia XZ2 comes in Liquid Black, Liquic Silver, Deep Green, and Ash Pink colour options.

The Xperia XZ2 Compact shares most of the specs with the Xperia XZ2. However, comes with a smaller screen size rated at 5-inch and a smaller battery capacity rated at 2,870mAh. The Xperia XZ2 Compact comes in Black, White Silver, Moss Green, and Coral Pink colour variants.

There is no word on the pricing details. The Sony Xperia XZ2 and the Xperia XZ2 Compact will be available in March end this year.

Additionally, Sony has unveiled various accessories to go with the aforementioned smartphones such as the Quick Charger UCH12W for fast charging, the 2-way Style USB Audio & Bluetooth Headset (SBH90C) for high-quality wireless music streaming, and the Xperia Ear Duo open ear headphones with Siri and Google Assistant integration.
