Mobile World Congress 2018 has begun, and the much-awaited, much-rumoured flagships by South Korean company Samsung- the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9+ are now official.
Starting with a couple of highlighting features the smartphones come with, the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9+ come with improved Bixby which now works diligently using AR, can help in translations, can know more about a product seen using real-time object detection and recognition, purchase products and can track calories.
The smartphones come with stereo speakers by ALG for enhanced audio output, are IP68 certified for water and dust resistance, support improved Samsung DeX with DeX Pad for better usage experience, and are the first duo to support Samsung’s recently launched SmartThings app for a connected lifestyle.
Talking about the hardware specs, the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9+ come with Infinity Quad HD+ Curved Super AMOLED displays, rated at 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch, respectively with an aspect ratio rated at 18:5:9. The smartphones are powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor (for the US) and Exynos 9810 (for other markets).
While the Galaxy S9 comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, the Galaxy S9+ has an increased 6GB of RAM and 64GB of inbuilt storage. The Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9+ are backed by 3,000mAh and 3,500mAh batteries with fast charging, respectively.
On the camera front, the smartphones have camera setups placed vertically with the fingerprint scanners below them). The Galaxy S9 has a single-camera setup rated at 12-megapixel with Super Speed Dual Pixel AF sensor, and OIS. The Galaxy S9+, on the other hand, features dual cameras at the back, each rated at 12-megapixel with dual OIS and the same sensor as the S9. The front-facing snapper for both the smartphones is rated at 8-megapixel.
Both the smartphones come with improved camera capabilities such as Super Slow-mo with a frame rate rated at 960fps, improved low-light photography with the new Dual aperture feature (f/1.5 f/2.4) for changed aperture, and the new AR Emoji much like Apple’s Animoji, however, being more life-like.
Additionally, the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9+ (available in Midnight Black, Titanium Gray, Coral Blue and Lilac Purple) are accompanied by a fingerprint scanner at the back, iris scanner and facial recognition.
