Google has introduced the ability to send and receive messages to its in-house payments app- Google Tez in India. The move seems to be in direct competition with Paytm and WhatsApp.
The new feature is in its initial phase and will eventually roll out to all the users in the country. The new Chat icon will be present next to the Pay and Request options for the users to commence a chat along with the transactions being made.
According to a Google spokesperson, “We’ve added a feature to Tez that allows you to send simple messages back and forth to your contacts about the payments you make.” However, the Chat feature is currently not visible in the app.
For those who don’t know, Paytm recently added the chat feature in the form of Inbox for the users to send and receive messages while he or she conduct transactions and pay other utility bills.
Additionally, popular messaging app WhatsApp has introduced the UPI-based payments feature which will allow users to send and receive money from within the chat. However, the feature is available to a small number of users and will eventually reach out to users in India.
