First Impression: Tecno Pova with big battery, display, quad-camera setup

Chinese smartphone brand, a subsidiary of Transsion Holdings, Tecno today launched a new smartphone “Pova” with a big battery and quad rear camera setup in the country starting at Rs 9,999.

The smartphone has two variants — 4GB+64GB at Rs 9,999 and 6GB+128 GB at Rs 11, 999. It will be available on Flipkart in three colour options including Magic Blue, Speed Purple and Dazzle Black.

The smartphone is also said to be the company’s first gaming-centric smartphone that features a powerful chipset along with an impressive display. The major highlights of the smartphone are a MediaTek Helio G80 chipset, 6,000mAh battery, quad-camera setup and more. I received the smartphone in Magic Blue colour and my first impression of Tecno Pova is here.

The smartphone looks huge with a big display and a punch-hole selfie camera setup at the top-left corner and the back looks quite good too with a quad-camera setup at the top-left corner of the back panel. The fingerprint reader is right next to the camera module. The front panel offers a punch-hole design at the top-left corner. The right side features volume controls and power on/off button. The base panel comes with a 3.5mm audio jack and micro USB port. The display looks good for watching videos, playing games etc. However, it’s a bit bulky but the good part is that it has smudge-free back and you don’t need to wipe it again and again.

As I told you that it has a big screen, the smartphone comes with a 6.8-inch dot-in screen and 20.5:9 aspect ratio. Enriched with a 1640 x 720 HD+ resolution, 480 Nits brightness and 90.4 per cent screen to body ratio, it gives more screen space that allows users to see more. In landscape mode, watching movies or playing games becomes much more engaging. This is the pros of the smartphone. The brightness is perfect as the display is completely visible in low-lit places as well as under sunlight.

The battery of Tecno Pova is huge. It has a 6,000mAh battery, which is commendable as you may need to charge your smartphone less. The device offers 18W dual IC fast charging support that charges 20 per cent faster than single IC fast charge. Topping it off, there is a 3D multilayer graphite and thermal conductive gel heat dissipation solution that ensure game experience optimisation with reduced charging temperature.

Tecno POVA is equipped with an AI quad rear camera setup that consists of a 13MP sensor along with a 2MP macro shooter, a 2MP depth sensor and AI Lens and a flashlight. There is an 8MP shooter with dual-LED flash for video calling and selfies. It has multi AI photography modes like Bokeh, Macro, Slow Motion, Short video, 2K video recording, AI body shaping, Google Lens, Document scanner etc. The initial pictures from both the rear and front cameras well good in broad daylight. I will explain a fully-fledged detailing of the camera in the review.

TECNO POVA is powered by Helio G80 processor provides a range of in-chip accelerators and powerful AI processing capabilities that supports hardware depth sensing, camera control unit, image stabilization and rolling shutter compensation technologies. Thus capturing spectacular and bright photos even in low light conditions, it also supports slow-motion videos at 120 fps continuous recording at 720p HD Quality. TECNO POVA has a hyper engine technology that ensures that your phone always keeps up with you no matter what you are doing or how many apps you have running at the same time. LPDDR4X high-speed memory allows more fluid multi-tasking and faster switching between apps without facing any lag issues. The performance of this device is incredibly reliable. The 12nm technology helps in making the smartphone faster and power efficient. The phone runs on Android 10 with HiOS on top of it.

Initial remarks

The smartphone is bulky but it is a powerhouse device with a big battery, display and quad-camera setup. The new Tecno Pova can give competition to Redmi 9 Prime, Micromax In 1b and more.
