Artificial Intelligence is what shaping the world today, it may take up our jobs in the future but that doesn’t mean we cannot use it meanwhile. Virtual assistants are now a major feature on almost all devices, so knowing which one is the best will impact on your next purchase. There are four leading Artificial Intelligence assistants in the market right now – Google Assistant by Google, Siri by Apple, Alexa by Amazon and Cortana by Microsoft. And in the battle of digital assistants, a winner is emerging.
According to a new study by the Loup Ventures, asking 800 questions to the four digital assistants, they discovered that, all of them have shown big improvements since last test, conducted in April — with Siri making the biggest leap forward — but they’re still far from perfect.
All four assistants were great at understanding queries, however, the Google Assistant had a 100% success rate, Apple’s Siri understood 99% of queries, and Microsoft’s Cortana and Amazon’s Alexa were only slightly behind with a 98% success rate.
It was seen in the results that Google Assistant continued with its out performance with answering 86% correctly and understanding all 800 questions. Siri was however, close behind and gave 79% correct answers and only misunderstood 11 questions. Alexa correctly answered 61% and misunderstood 13. Meanwhile, Cortana came out to be a slacker; it correctly answered 52% and misunderstood 19.
It was taken into note that almost every misunderstood question involved a proper noun, often the name of a local town or restaurant. Both the voice recognition and natural language processing of digital assistants has improved to the point where, within reason, they will understand everything you say to them.
The questions used for the study were broken into 5 categories — Local, Commerce, Navigation, Information, and Command, however, Google Assistant stand out in all but one- Command. And Siri lead over in the same category beating Google Assistant. As Alexa was expected to win in Commerce category, it didn’t go the same way because many question in commerce involved researching products rather than conducting purchases with your voice. And in both the “Local” and “Navigation” categories, Google Assistant and Siri were clear winners over Alexa and Cortana, thanks to maps integration on their respective platforms.
Although, the future in which we can just casually chat with the digital assistants and have it answer everything perfectly is still pretty far away, but all digital assistants has shown huge improvements in the test, and continuation of this will allow more and more functions controlled by your voice in the future.
