“Apple products are an essential part of people’s lives, and this year we’re bringing powerful new capabilities to empower our users in even more ways,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering. “We’re delivering the next generation of Apple Intelligence across our platforms; introducing Siri AI, a profoundly more intelligent, knowledgeable, and capable Siri; expanding child safety features with intuitive new tools for families; and making our software platforms faster, more reliable, and more delightful than ever before.”
iOS 27 – Key Features and Upgrades
One of the major highlights of iOS 27 is the continued evolution of Apple’s Liquid Glass interface, which was first introduced last year. The updated design now includes a dedicated opacity slider allowing users to customise the transparency effect throughout the interface. Alongside the visual refinements, Apple has also focused heavily on performance optimisation.

According to the company, iOS 27 can launch apps up to 30 percent faster than iOS 26, while photos can load up to 70 percent quicker. AirDrop transfers have also been improved with Apple claiming speeds up to 80 percent faster than before.
Users can additionally expect smoother transitions when switching between Wi-Fi and cellular networks. Apple says an optimised CPU scheduler has also been implemented to improve overall system responsiveness and efficiency on compatible devices.

Artificial intelligence plays a central role in iOS 27. Apple has significantly upgraded Siri, which now combines Apple’s Foundation Models with Google’s Gemini AI models. In a major change, Siri is now available as a standalone application rather than being limited to system-level interactions. The new Siri app also allows users to revisit and access previous conversations while making interactions more contextual and useful over time.

Apple Intelligence features have also been expanded across several native applications including Safari, Wallet, Photos, and Shortcuts. Users can interact with their devices using natural language commands to complete tasks more efficiently, while the system can provide contextual recommendations throughout the operating system. The Photos app gains new AI-powered editing tools including a Spatial Reframing feature, the ability to extend image boundaries and prompt-based image editing capabilities.
The Camera app also receives an upgrade with a new Siri-powered visual search mode. While Visual Intelligence was previously accessible through the Camera Control button on supported devices, the new implementation extends similar functionality to users of devices such as the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Apple is also introducing greater personalisation options for Siri allowing users to adjust the assistant’s voice pitch, speed, tone, and accent.
Several productivity enhancements are also arriving with iOS 27. The Phone app will be able to display relevant information from the Mail app while users are calling businesses through a feature called Call Context. Both Messages and Mail will offer intelligent suggestions beneath conversations enabling users to quickly create reminders, notes, and perform other actions without manually switching apps.
Safari is gaining smarter tab management capabilities, automatically organising tabs based on topics. The browser can also notify users when websites are updated with new information such as changes in product pricing or stock availability.

Apple has also strengthened parental controls across its ecosystem. New features include Time Allowances and Schedules along with an “Ask to Browse” option for new websites. Parents can define which apps, contacts, and websites their children can access, while children can request permission for new apps or websites with a single tap. Additionally, Apple says violent photos and videos will be automatically filtered in Messages. These parental control enhancements will be available across iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27.

iOS 27 Compatibility and Availability
In terms of compatibility, Apple confirmed that iOS 27 will support the iPhone 11 series and newer models. This includes devices from the iPhone 11 lineup through the latest iPhone 17 series as well as the iPhone 16e, iPhone Air, and iPhone SE (2nd generation and later).

Developers are expected to receive access to the new operating system shortly.
However, not all users will have access to every feature. Apple Intelligence capabilities showcased at WWDC 2026 will be available only on the iPhone 15 Pro and newer models.
The company also noted that some AI features will initially launch in English, while users in China and the European Union may have to wait longer before gaining access to the new Apple Intelligence experiences.
