- The device is expected to be launched in September 2027.
Apple is reportedly considering a huge hardware shakeup for its flagship iPhone 20 Pro. Recent speculations from the industry suggest that the tech giant could remove the dedicated Action button that was initially featured on the iPhone 15 Pro. This dramatic design move is meant to simplify the outside shell to fit an all-new quad-curved display planned for the 2027 Pro series.
Apple is planning to add customisable shortcuts for the Action button to the Camera Control button itself, rather than removing important features. The company may decrease additional frame cuts while still keeping the single-handed capability via a dual-action gesture: a regular tap for camera tools and a long press for speedy user actions.

The leak on Weibo in November 2026 that Apple is ditching the dedicated Action Button on the upcoming iPhone 20 Pro. The rumoured change will make the external design of the device simpler, making the main flagship line more like the iPhone Duo, which has a minimalistic, software-driven button design. However, Apple hasn’t confirmed the move, but shifting the long-press capability to the Camera Control button addresses the problem of having single-function buttons without adding physical complexity to the chassis.
Which Button Could Apple Remove From iPhone 20 Pro?

Apple is said to be removing the Action Button that debuted on the iPhone 15 Pro series to replace the usual mute switch. Apple wants to include its customisable long-press action in the Camera Control button, instead of removing its functionality completely.
Apple’s Current iPhone Button Layout
The latest iPhone Pro models include a multi-button layout, with the conventional Power/Side button on the right, Volume controls and the Action button on the left, and a special touch-capacitive Camera Control button located on the bottom frame.
What the Rumoured Button Removal Could Mean
Removing the Action button doesn’t mean you lose shortcuts. Apple will probably add the long-press feature to the Camera Control button. Users may launch custom tasks, mute profiles or perform shortcuts with easy motions on a single merged key.
iPhone 20 Pro Expected Design Changes
The upcoming iPhone 20 Pro could have a quad-curved display, with a minimal border footprint around the active display area. It also has fewer mechanical cutouts due to button consolidation and a smaller cutout via under-display component placement.
iPhone 20 Pro Expected Specifications
The upcoming iPhone 20 Pro might have a 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with 120Hz ProMotion technology and a sleek thin-border design. It could have a triple-lens back camera configuration that includes a 50MP primary camera, a 48MP Ultra-Wide and a 48MP Periscope Telephoto sensor. It also has an integrated capacitive Camera Control button with multi-action shortcuts and a next-generation A20 Pro processor based on an innovative 2nm production node. The iPhone 20 Pro is expected to come with better battery density and enable quicker wired USB-C and MagSafe wireless charging.
iPhone 20 Pro Expected Launch Timeline
Apple is likely to follow its traditional release schedule and announce the iPhone 20 Pro series in September 2027. However, the launch timeline is yet to confirm by the company.
