Huawei has officially unveiled its latest flagship lineup in China and introduced the Huawei Pura 90, Huawei Pura 90 Pro and Huawei Pura 90 Pro Max. Unlike the previous generation models, the brand has skipped “Plus” and “Ultra” variants this time. All three smartphones bring upgraded hardware, new Kirin processors and enhanced imaging capabilities including the use of a 1-inch camera sensor. Here’s everything you need to know about the new phones.
Huawei Pura 90 – Key Features
The Huawei Pura 90 sports a 6.8-inch display with a centred pill-shaped punch-hole cutout, while the Pro models use a single punch-hole design. Despite being the entry model, Huawei has focused heavily on imaging. The Pura 90 is equipped with a 50MP RYYB primary camera with OIS and f/1.8 aperture, alongside a 12.5MP RYYB ultra-wide lens with f/2.2 aperture and a 50MP periscope telephoto lens offering 3.7x optical zoom with OIS. The device also includes Huawei’s Red Maple colour system for better colour accuracy.
The phone stands out with a redesigned camera module that follows the lineup’s rounded triangular “guitar pick” layout but adopts a more asymmetrical arrangement. Instead of a uniform triple-camera layout like the Pro Max, the base model features a large circular sensor paired with smaller surrounding lenses giving it a distinct look.
For selfies, the phone features a 50MP front camera and uniquely adds a Red Maple colour camera on the front as well, a feature not available on the Pro variants. Powering the device is a large 6,500mAh battery, which is bigger than the 6,000mAh unit found in the Pro Max, and it supports 100W fast charging.
Despite packing a large battery, the device maintains a slim 7mm profile.
The smartphone runs on the Kirin 9010S processor delivering around 15 percent better performance compared to its predecessor. On the software side, it operates on HarmonyOS 6.1 offering AI-driven features visual enhancements and improvements to the Xiaoyi assistant.
Huawei Pura 90 Pro and Huawei Pura Pro Max – Key Features
Moving to the higher-end models, the Huawei Pura 90 Pro features a 6.6-inch display and the Pro Max comes with a larger 6.9-inch screen. Both devices use a single punch-hole cutout. The Pro Max introduces what Huawei calls an “emotional colour aesthetic” featuring a dual-colour gradient metal frame and a glowing borderless design.
It is available in Orange Ocean, Emerald Lake, Sunset Purple, Dawn Gold, and Obsidian Black, while the Pro variant comes in Pink Guava, Orange Soda, Coconut White, and Mulberry Black.
Both the Pura 90 Pro and Pro Max are powered by the Kirin 9030S processor offering notable improvements in AI performance. Huawei claims up to 200 percent better NPU image understanding, along with enhancements in AI ISP color processing, telephoto video clarity0 and stabilisation accuracy.
The devices run on HarmonyOS 6.1 and bring several AI-powered features such as AI pose suggestions, AI composition assistance, portrait retouching and one-click photo creation. The Xiaoyi assistant has also been upgraded with real-time pointing recognition and voiceprint detection.
In terms of cameras, the Pura 90 Pro Max leads the lineup with a 50MP RYYB primary sensor (1/1.28-inch) with OIS, enhanced by LOFIC technology and a variable aperture ranging from f/1.4 to f/4.0. Huawei claims it delivers up to 16 times greater dynamic range than the iPhone 17 Pro Max, along with improved highlight and shadow detail. It is paired with a 40MP RYYB ultra-wide camera and a 200MP RYYB periscope telephoto lens (1/1.28-inch) offering 4x optical zoom and up to 8x optical-quality zoom.
The telephoto system is said to capture up to five times more light than the iPhone 17 Pro Max thanks to an industry-first three-in-one super concentrating prism and includes CIPA 7.0 stabilisation.
The Huawei Pura 90 Pro follows a similar approach but slightly tones down the setup. It features a 50MP RYYB main sensor (1/1.28-inch) with OIS and variable aperture (f/1.4 to f/4.0) paired with a 12.5MP RYYB ultra-wide (13mm) and a 50MP periscope telephoto lens with 4x optical zoom and up to 8x optical-quality zoom.
Both models fall under Huawei’s XMAGE imaging branding and include a Red Maple multispectral lens. They also offer features such as 3D dynamic photos, portrait enhancements, and AI-assisted photography tools.
The Pro Max model additionally features Huawei’s Kunlun glass protection, which reduces reflections by 70 percent and significantly improves durability offering up to 16 times better scratch resistance and 25 percent better drop resistance. It also supports long-distance voice enhancement, enabling clear voice pickup from up to 10 meters away.
