Samsung has announced the rollout of Digital Home Key, a new addition that enables users to unlock compatible smart door locks using their Galaxy smartphones. It is built on the Aliro protocol and marks an expansion of Samsung Wallet’s digital key functionality beyond vehicles and into home access.

After this update, Samsung Galaxy users will be able to use Digital Home Key to unlock supported smart locks. It is aimed at offering a secure and seamless alternative to traditional keys.

“As we continue to evolve Samsung Wallet, delivering trusted mobile experiences remains at the core of our innovation. Through close collaboration with our partners and in alignment with the Aliro standard, Digital Home Key brings the same level of security and ease Samsung Galaxy users expect from Samsung Wallet to their homes,” said Woncheol Chai, EVP and Head of Digital Wallet Team, Mobile eXperience (MX) Business at Samsung Electronics.

Expanding Samsung Wallet’s Digital Key Ecosystem

Samsung Wallet already functions as a centralised and secure hub for payment cards, identification documents, boarding passes, and digital keys. The Digital Home Key ensures the platform supports access to both vehicles and homes, further integrating with the broader Samsung Galaxy ecosystem to simplify everyday routines.

To get started, users must set up a compatible smart door lock via Samsung SmartThings using Matter, the global smart home interoperability standard. During the onboarding process, a Digital Home Key can then be added directly to Samsung Wallet.

Depending on device and lock compatibility, users can unlock doors in multiple ways –

  • By tapping their smartphone using near-field communication (NFC)
  • Through hands-free access enabled by ultra-wideband (UWB) proximity detection
  • Remotely via the app

Built on Aliro for Interoperability

Samsung Wallet’s Digital Home Key leverages the Aliro protocol, an industry-standard smart lock access framework developed by the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA). The Aliro standard is designed to enable secure and interoperable digital key solutions across different smart lock manufacturers.

As part of this initiative, Samsung is working with leading smart lock brands including Aqara, Nuki, Schlage, and Xthings to ensure compatibility with Samsung Wallet Digital Home Key.

Advanced Security with Samsung Knox

Digital Home Keys are securely stored within Samsung Wallet on the device and protected by Samsung Knox, the company’s enterprise-grade security platform. The system is designed to meet EAL6+ grade certification standards, offering strong safeguards against unauthorised access.

Even if a device is lost or misplaced, users retain control over their Digital Home Key. Access can be remotely managed or revoked using Samsung Find. Additionally, biometric authentication or PIN verification within Samsung Wallet ensures that only authorised individuals can access and manage home keys.

Samsung Wallet Digital Home Key – Availability

Samsung Wallet Digital Home Key began rolling out in select regions in March 2026. It will further expand according to the launch timeline of compatible smart lock brands.
